Hello and welcome to my little corner of the internet!
I'm Atiba, a medical student, writer and polymath from India.
I made this space so I can help awesome achievers (like you!) turn their passion into an online business that's authentic and fun.
I do this by sharing simple, to-the-point advice in blogging, productivity and more in a way that's relevant to you.
I believe that...
- Following best practices and strategies shouldn't mean compromising on who you are and how you want to do things.
- Business (and life!) is fun when you are doing things that matter to you, and in a way that makes sense to you.
- Everyone deserves to live at their greatest potential - both personally and professionally.
- Experimentation is the key to become your best at anything and figure out unique, innovative solutions.
- Life's too short and the internet's too crowded for lengthy content where a short, simple and actionable idea will do.
...But sometimes, just because you believe in something doesn't mean you are actually living like that, right? Maybe you feel like you've compromised on some of your values in your quest to grow your business. Maybe you think you'll need to give up a few things and just do as they say!
Well, I've been there! I started my first blog in 2014, and everything was amazing until I realized that in order to be successful, I had to become a professional. And I thought that being a 'professional' means giving up my crazy ideas and going with the conventional.
Guess what? It never worked out. I lost what little interest I had left in my blog, and felt stuck for a long while before closing my site for good. Things still didn't change, because I wanted my new site to be perfect from the very start.
After going round and round for nearly two years, I finally gathered the courage to just start, experiment, and do things my way. It was after letting go all those expectations, both mine and others', a little bit of commitment, and a lot more faith in myself, that this website was born.
I found my focus and purpose in business, and now I'm here to help you do the same. I'm not going to tell you to do exactly as I say, nor am I going to force you to give up on any of your ideas or idiosyncrasies.
I'm just going to share the best practices as I've learned them, and help you decide which of them are right for you. I'm going to help you blend what works with what suits your style, so you can do business in a way that's effective yet fun.
Ready? Awesome! Let's get started...
Want the whole story? Okay, here you go!
I'm Atiba, extroverted introvert, dreamer, and forever curious to learn, explore, and connect. Officially, I'm on my way to become a doctor, but secretly I know that, now that I've discovered this entrepreneurship thing, I can never go back to having a job again.
It's not like I never thought of having a business, I just thought that I'll be better off having side hustles.
Then what changed? I decided to start a blog hardly second year in university instead of waiting till I am 'settled' in life, that's what.
Unless free stuff and gifts count, I never made a single penny from that one, but it opened a whole new world of possibilities for me. It became clear that, although I had short comings which prevented me from being consistent with my business, there was nothing stopping me from getting over those and running a full time business later on.
It also became clear that, although I'll always find medicine an interesting job to have, I'll not be able to dedicate 10+ years of my life to it. I want the freedom to work my own hours. I want to do something that I'm deeply passionate about, and which I can spend hours working on.
And so started the journey of making my blog into a business, of going from an amateur to a professional. However, the journey never progressed much with my old blog (which was about personal development, in case you are wondering). I realized that, by trying to be a professional, I was stifling my natural curiosity and binding myself to rules I didn't actually care about.
I finally closed that blog in 2016, but was stuck in a cycle of overthinking and perfection. It was after countless plans and replans, as well as some lessons on the personal front, that my curious side finally took over again, and I said, 'Forget getting it right from the start, let's just experiment!'
So I tried all my crazy ideas. I blogged every weekday for a month. I ran a newsletter without a blog. I promoted my brand before I even had a website.
I got my fair share of successes and lessons, and I became increasingly clear on what I want to do with my online business, and what I want to help you with.
This blog, website, and brand is the result of that process. Of course, I'm not done yet. I'm still learning. I'm still experimenting. But now I'm ready to take you along on my journey.
Are you in? Great! Let's build a business that's meaningful, fun, and doable - and let's do it your way!
